Michele Bachmann (R-MN) Healthcare
The Sixth District Republican has seen her star rise in Tea Party circles for fiery rhetoric opposing government "handouts" and "socialized medicine." But she's directly benefiting from government funds. Since 2007, the clinic, run by her husband Marcus Bachmann, has taken in nearly $30,000.
Minnesota has it's own version of "socialized medicine" for low-income families, called Medical Assistance, and Bachmann's family business actively sought to gain access to these taxpayer funds.
Ellsworth voted against the stimulus bill in 2009, saying that "there were far too many provisions that would provide little to no economic stimulus."
He then went on to support those who were requesting stimulus funds. He also now claims, "I think it did work."
McConnell, who lead the opposition to the stimulus in the Senate, has been an ongoing critic. "You do have to wonder, though, whether the stimulus has had any impact at all."
But despite McConnell's steady stream of criticisms and demands that money stop flowing to projects, he has been a vocal champion of the stimulus in his home state.
Boasted that she prevented lawmakers from inserting special spending requests in the stimulus law when it passed. Stating, "no earmarks, new state whistleblower protections, and an historic degree of transparency."
However, she engaged in the behind-the-scenes letter writing to secure funding afterward for the "San Francisco Community Broadband Opportunities Program."
He claims to love teachers: "Well, look I'm married to a school teacher. My wife spent more than a decade in a public school classroom. So I love teachers!"
But when it came time to vote on an emergency bill to provide emergency funding for teachers, he voted "no" to saving 3,600 teachers' jobs.
